Mango Varieties Orchard Collection:

The Department’s orchard is home to over 70 mango varieties, from beloved Caribbean classics to rare Florida hybrids and Thai cultivars. Each one has a unique character, season, and flavour profile waiting to be discovered.

The varieties below are currently growing at the Cayman Islands Department of Agriculture orchard. Photographs will be updated with our own orchard images as the collection is documented. More varieties coming soon.

What is Brix? The °Brix scale measures the natural sugar content of fruit juice. Higher numbers mean a sweeter mango. Most premium eating varieties fall between 18°–25° Brix.

Black Mango

Black Mango

The flesh is firmer than most varieties with an intense, concentrated sweetness. Excellent in fruit salads, smoothies, and chutneys. Best enjoyed when fully ripe, its signature crunch and rich flavour are unlike any other Caribbean mango.

Cotton

Cotton

Unusually soft, cotton-like flesh texture when ripe. smooth eating quality and gentle sweetness. best eaten when fully soft and fragrant.

Julie

Julie

Small to medium, with creamy, completely fibre-free flesh and a rich “Caribbean sweet spice”. Best eaten on the day it’s picked.

Brix Sweetness Level: 18–22°

Madame Francis

Madame Francis

Oblong and slightly curved with pale yellow skin and dark orange, slightly fibrous flesh that is robust and meaty in texture. A dreamy peach aroma and a sweet, full-bodied tropical flavour.

Brix Sweetness Level: 17–20°

Pickering

Pickering

Medium-sized, plump, and oval, ripening to a light golden yellow with pink freckled blush. The flesh is firm, low-fibre, and extraordinarily sweet with unmistakable coconut undertones.

Brix Sweetness Level: 18–21°

Carrie

Carrie

Small to medium, with yellow-green skin and deep orange, completely fibre-free flesh. The flavour is bold and complex: ultra-sweet with spicy, resinous undertones. Must be eaten quickly once ripe.

Nam-Doc Mai

Nam-Doc Mai

Long, slender, and teardrop-shaped with golden yellow skin at ripeness. The flesh is silky, fibre-free, and extraordinarily sweet with a subtle floral spice. Can be enjoyed green and crisp (with almost no acidity) or allowed to ripen to candy-level sweetness.

Pram Kai Mea

Pram Kai Mea

popular eaten green, crisp, completely fibre-free, and full of excellent flavour even before ripening. Small to medium fruit, typically 7–12 oz, on a prolific mid-season tree. When ripe, sweetness increases considerably. A versatile mango suited to both fresh eating and green mango salads and pickles.

Coconut Cream

Coconut Cream

Medium-sized, oval, with bumpy light green to yellow skin and a pinkish blush. Its silky, fibre-free flesh delivers a pronounced coconut flavour and rich tropical sweetness. A pina colada in mango form a true dessert variety.

Brix Sweetness level: 21°

East Indian

East Indian

Round to oval with yellow-orange skin and vivid orange flesh. Extraordinarily juicy with sweet notes of lemon and pineapple. Best enjoyed fully ripe: squeeze and slurp straight from the skin

Lancetilla

Lancetilla

individual fruits can weigh up to 5 pounds. Bright crimson-red skin over firm, fibre-free, lemon-yellow flesh with an intensely sweet classic mango flavour.

Nelson

Nelson

a firm texture similar to the Number 11 and a rich, complex taste.  flavour deepens and sweetens fully only at peak ripeness.

San Felipe

a bright yellow-red fruit on a vigorous tree, valued for its rich, sweet, and spicy flavour profile.

Common Mango

Fibrous in texture, as the name suggests, and best enjoyed ripe when the pulp becomes sweet and juicy. A nostalgic island staple with cultural roots across every Caribbean island. Best used for juicing and homemade mango drinks.

incredibly sweet and juicy. Firm, creamy, fibre-free flesh. Skin turns a deep reddish-orange when fully ripe.

Sweet Tart

Sweet Tart

a burst of rich sweetness followed by a vibrant tart zing, like a tropical sour candy. Dense orange, fibre-free flesh with a pronounced floral aroma. Excellent at all stages, tangy when underripe, syrupy and complex when fully ripe.

Torbet

Torbet

A classic mango variety with mild sweetness, full flavour.
