The Department of Agriculture (“DOA”) respects your privacy and takes care in protecting your personal data as a Data Controller in compliance with the Cayman Islands Data Protection Act. This privacy notice demonstrates our commitment to ensuring your personal data s handled responsibly.
The notice applies to personal data we collect when you apply for, register, access, or use a service we provide; or purchase good directly from the DoA.
Personal data we collect
Personal data as defined by the Cayman Islands Data Protection Act, is “any data relating to a living individual who can be identified”.
The Department of Agriculture collects your personal data for the purposes outlined below.
The DOA may disclose your personal data to other agencies or organisations as outlined below, including as required under applicable legislation.
Your personal data will be processed in accordance with the data protection principles set out in Schedule 1 of the Data Protection Act.
The DOA collects the following types of personal data
Personal identifiers, contacts, purchase history, programme membership records, certification records and characteristics: o Name
- Username/Social Media Handle o Email Addresses o Physical Address o Postal Address
- Photographs(for the sake of marketing and identification verification) o Videos(for the sake of marketing) o Date of Birth o Telephone Numbers o Name of Pet o Pet’s Microchip Details
- And any other personal data you choose to provide
How we get personal data and why we need it
Most of the personal data the DOA processes are provided to us directly by you to aid us in processing requests and transactions and to provide you with high quality service. Most of this personal data is collected through the completion of application forms, for one or more of the following reasons:
- Access to benefits under various programmes (e.g. Government subsidized programmes)
- For contact if necessary
- Restricted use of pesticides purchased
- For Creation/Verification of registers containing:
- Commercial and Non-Commercial Farmers
- Approved Practicing Veterinarians and Animal Health Assistants
- Licensed Pet Owners
We also receive personal data indirectly, from the following sources in the following scenarios:
- Private Veterinary Clinics (personal information of their clients)
- Pet Brokers (personal information of their clients)
- Cayman Islands Veterinary Board (confirmation of training and certification to support application)
Security – How we store your personal data
We take reasonable measures, including administrative, technical and physical safeguards to help protect your personal data from loss, theft, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration and destruction. All files are securely stored as physical or electronic files.
Your data protection rights
We want to make sure you are fully aware of all of your data protection rights. You are entitled to the following:
- The right to access – You have the right to request copies of your personal data and other information related to our processing.
- The right to rectification – You have the right to request that we correct any information you believe is inaccurate, including to ensure it is complete or up to date.
- The right to erasure – You have the right to request that we erase your personal data, under certain conditions.
- The right to stop or restrict processing – You have the right to request that we stop or restrict the processing of your personal data, under certain conditions.
- The right to complain – You have the right to complain to us or the Ombudsman if you believe we are processing your personal data in a way that breaches the Data Protection Act.

Effective Date and Changes to Notice: DoA reserves the right to update this Privacy Notice at any time, and we will publish a new Privacy Notice when we make any substantial updates.
