Crop Extension Officer (Cayman Brac)
Salary Range: CI$60,060 – $78,516 per annum

The post holder is to assist with the implementation of the Department’s Crop Production and Extension Programmes in the Sister Islands (Cayman Brac and Little Cayman). This will include facilitating the transfer of improved and appropriate technologies to the agricultural sector in order to increase domestic agricultural production, raise on-farm productivity and improve postharvest handling and marketing of agricultural commodities.

To assist the Manager, Agricultural Health Inspection Services with the quarantine inspection of plants, plant products live animals, animal products and other regulated articles being imported or exported from the Cayman Islands and the monitoring/surveillance of pests of quarantine importance.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

A bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Agronomy, Plant Science, or a related field.

Relevant certifications in pest management, soil science, or sustainable agriculture are advantageous.

Skills:

Technical, Communication and Interpersonal, Training and Facilitation, Organizational and Planning, adaptability and flexibility, Technological Proficiency, Teamwork and Collaboration, and physical stamina.

Must have supervisory experience

Livestock Development Officer
Salary Range: CI$67,260 $88,248 per annum

The post holder is to provide technical and agribusiness support to the local livestock farming community and other relevant stakeholders in an effort to improve decision-making surrounding livestock productivity and profitability, and the support the development and implementation of strategies and programmes for the growth and development of the livestock sector in the Cayman Islands.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

At a minimum a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Production, Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine or related field,

A post graduate degree in animal production, animal science, agricultural economics. Agribusiness, Agricultural Extension or a related field preferred

Minimum of five (5) years’ professional work experience in providing extension services and agribusiness advice to livestock farmers.

Must have at least three (3) years’ experience in the delivery of agriculture-related training initiatives for farmers and/or other members of the Agri sector.

Must have at least 3 years’ experience in artificial insemination and embryo transfer of cattle.

Experience in the development and execution of livestock development projects and plans

Must have sound working knowledge of, and practical experience in livestock animal health, welfare, management, nutrition, breeding, disease control, and general husbandry. Knowledge should be particularly sound with respect to cattle, goats, sheep, pigs, and poultry.

Must be familiar with island geography and be comfortable with visiting locations throughout the island.

Basic working knowledge of beekeeping/apiculture principles.

Must have a passion for educating others and sharing knowledge for the purpose of continuous improvement.
