Additionally, here are some key takeaways from the session:
๐ Understanding Poultry Health
Recognizing normal bird behaviour is essential for early detection of diseases such as infectious bronchitis and other common conditions affecting poultry.
๐ฆ Common Diseases in Cayman
Topics included infectious bronchitis, coccidiosis, fowl pox, Marekโs disease, aspergillosis, parasites, and the effects of heat stress on flocks.
๐ Parasite Management
Feral birds can carry mites, lice, and worms without symptoms but pose a risk to commercial flocks’ biosecurity and separation are key.
๐ก Housing & Management
Proper ventilation, dry litter, spacing, feeding practices, and access to clean water are critical for optimal bird performance.
โ๏ธ Best Practices for Farmers
Daily flock checks, proper cleaning and disinfection, correct feeder and drinker setup, and downtime between flocks all help reduce disease risk.
๐ Biosecurity Matters
Prevention is better than cure. Strong biosecurity measures protect your flock, reduce costs, and improve productivity.
