The Department wishes to advise all dog owners of the following and ask that efforts (where necessary) are taken to comply:
- All dogs over the age of Four (4) Months must be officially licensed with the Department. Animal law (revision 2015) Section 24 requires that owners of dogs, four months and older, get a license. Failure to have your dog license is a summary offense that can result in a maximum fine of $500 per unlicensed dog plus court fees.
- All dogs when in any public place must be on a lead wearing a collar and their Department of Agriculture license tag affixed to it. It’s the Law. Personalized tags from A.L. Thompsons or Animal House are not considered dog licenses.
- The department’s enforcement officers have commenced a dog license canvas alongside the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) by going door to door educating dog owners as well as checking for their dog license.
- A dog license is automatically entered in the “Dog Licensure” database at the department.
- Dog owners can get license tags by visiting the Grand Cayman/ Cayman Brac Department of Agriculture, and Department of Agriculture licenses are FREE of charge.
