Avian Influenza Peak Migratory Bird Season Oct to Dec

AVIAN INFLUENZA (BIRD FLU)

Bird flu is a highly contagious disease caused by certain Type A influenza viruses. It primarily affects wild birds and poultry, but some strains can also infect mammals, including humans.

Migratory birds represent the biggest risk of the reintroduction of the avian influenza viruses into local bird flocks:

  • Wild birds may expose local birds to the virus.
  • Infected birds and contaminated environments can pose a risk to poultry.
  • Movement between farms can increase the risk of spread.
  • Indigenous birds can move the virus from farm to farm

Protect your flock. Stay alert this season.
