Crop Extension Officer
Salary Range: CI$60,060 – $78,516 per annum

JOB PURPOSE

The Department of Agriculture is seeking a Crop Extension Officer to provide comprehensive support to commercial growers across the Cayman Islands. This role is vital to safeguarding the agriculture sector, strengthening biosecurity, ensuring food safety, and promoting sustainability. The postholder will manage the Tree Crop Husbandry Program, ensuring best practices in crop production and maintenance, and will work closely with the Senior Agronomist to deliver agronomic services efficiently and effectively.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

A Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Plant Science, or a related field.

Relevant certifications in pest management, soil science, or sustainable agriculture are advantageous.

Skills:

Technical, Communication and Interpersonal, Training and Facilitation, Organizational and Planning, adaptability and flexibility, Technological Proficiency, Teamwork and Collaboration, and physical stamina.

Agriculture Health Inspection Services (AHIS) – Officer

The Department of Agriculture is seeking an AHIS Officer to join our dedicated team.
Location: Grand Cayman   Organization: Department of Agriculture   Requisition ID: 2025-454   Job Type: Full-Time   Closing Date: OCTOBER/13/2025

 

The AHIS Officer plays a vital role in safeguarding the Cayman Islands’ agricultural sector and natural environment through the enforcement of biosecurity measures and inspection activities. This role supports agricultural resilience, food security, and safe trade by implementing protocols and collaborating with stakeholders to protect citizens, ecosystems, and infrastructure. Operating under key legislation—including the Plant Protection Act, Animals Act, National Conservation Act, and Endangered Species (Trade & Transport) Act—and International Conventions including the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC),the Convention for International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) and the World Organization of Animal Health (WOAH), the Officer contributes directly to the islands’ sustainability, resilience, and quality of life.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with 1-2 years of experience in Biosecurity, or Associate of Science in Agriculture with 3-4 years of experience in Biosecurity. Preference will be given to candidates with a focus on Crop Protection and Border Protection.

Demonstrated strong interest in agricultural science and biosecurity.

Excellent oral and verbal communication skills, capable of effectively engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders, both local and overseas. This includes delivering clear and impactful presentations once trained.
