National Livestock Identification Tracking System (NLITS)

The Department of Agriculture hosted the Livestock Extension and Heard Health Seminar, where the Veterinary Services unit discussed the National Livestock Identification Tracking System (NLITS) and the new livestock census taking place this year 2023. A spreadsheet with all census categories was provided and explained to the farmers that can be filled prior to the on-farm arrival of DoA’s personnel, who will then verify the data and ask the farmer to sign off.

  • NLITS is a system designed to track all livestock (cattle, goats, sheep and pigs) across the Cayman Islands.
  • NLITS is a part of the Cayman Islands Agriculture Business Information System (CI-ABIS).
  • Benefits of NLITS – ID Tag numbers and pictures of livestock are recorded in the Government CI-ABIS system for ease of identification for the owner, ease of management of livestock, data collection and traceability.

The goal is to have all livestock animals equipped with electronic ID tags (EIDs) and visual ID tags (VIDs). This service is FREE of cost from the Department of Agriculture.
