Precautionary Sanitisation Measures in West Bay

Community Advisory

3 Dec 2025

The Cayman Islands Regiment is conducting precautionary vehicle and pedestrian sanitisation operations in the West Bay area near Genevieve Bodden Drive as part of enhanced biosecurity measures following the confirmation of H5N1 avian flu virus at a single farm located on Cemetery Road.
The measures are being implemented out of an abundance of caution due to the proximity of residential poultry facilities to the area.

What to Expect
If you live in or are travelling through the affected area:
Cayman Islands Regiment personnel will be stationed at sanitisation points
Vehicles leaving the area will have tyres and wheel arches sprayed with disinfectant solution
Pedestrians may be asked to step through a footwear disinfection station
The process takes only a few moments and causes minimal delay.

Sanitisation Schedule
Operations are ongoing 24/7
Additional personnel during morning rush hours to minimise wait
times.

What Is Being Used?
Standard Clorox disinfectant solution (approved for biosecurity use)
All materials are safe and pose no contamination risk
Cayman Islands Regiment personnel are wearing protective equipment as a precaution

Is this an indication that there has been an increase in risk to humans?
No. The risk to humans remains low. These measures are being taken to help maintain that low risk.
