🐾 Looking to Adopt with DoA? Here’s How It Works! 🐶

The Department of Agriculture’s Animal Welfare & Control Unit is dedicated to placing our dogs into safe, loving forever homes — and we’re making it easier than ever for you to give a pup a second chance! 💖

Whether you’re adopting at our upcoming event or directly from the Animal Pound, here’s what you need to know:

📝 DoA Dog Adoption Process:

  1. Reserve your pup! The DOA will hold your pup on reservation for you whilst processing your application.
  2. Schedule and complete a home visit/study conducted by the Animal Welfare & Control team.
  3. Book a spay/neuter appointment with a local veterinary clinic and provide proof of the booking to the DoA. This is required before your pet can come home.
  4. Once approved, complete the adoption application and pay the associated fee. Your pup will be microchipped and licensed in your name!
  5. Take your new dog home! Collar and leashes are available free of charge to ensure your pup is off to a safe start.
  6. Within 60 days of adoption, submit proof of completed spay/neuter surgery to the DoA.

📌 All adopted animals from the DoA must be spayed or neutered subsequent to adoption, in accordance with Department policy.

✅ Adoptable Dogs are:

  • At least 6 weeks old
  • Temperament-tested: bright, alert, friendly, and behaviourally sound
  • Medically fit as determined by a Veterinary Officer
  • Not listed as a prohibited breed
  • Legally cleared for adoption
  • Spayed or neutered following adoption

✅ Eligible Adopters Must:

  • Be at least 18 years old with valid photo ID
  • Live in pet-friendly accommodations
  • Be financially able to care for a pet
  • Have no history of animal abuse, pet abandonment, or repeated straying
  • Be committed to meeting the pet’s medical, nutritional, shelter, and social needs
