Grand Opening of the Egg Production Facility at the Poultry Innovation and Education Centre!
From scrambled eggs at breakfast to egg cakes for dessert, eggs are the star ingredient that make every meal better — and now, they’re also helping to nourish our community in meaningful ways.
The Ministry of PLAHI, in partnership with the Department of Agriculture, proudly announces the grand opening of the Egg Production Facility, an exciting addition to the Poultry Innovation and Education Centre, launched in February 2024.
This facility is not intended for commercial egg sales. Instead, it serves as a model demonstration site, showcasing best practices in poultry health, housing, and production — and supporting research, training, and education for Cayman’s poultry farmers. Farmers can tour the facility, access layout designs, and get guidance from the DoA’s Poultry Extension Officer to help improve their own flocks efficiently and affordably.
The facility also plays a key role in the National Egg Strategy Programme, ensuring proper sanitation and safe handling of eggs before they’re donated to groups like Meals on Wheels, Caribbean Haven, and Savannah United Church, among others. This initiative supports vulnerable members of our community with a steady supply of locally produced, nutritious eggs, while promoting food security and sustainability across the Islands.
Together, we’re building a healthier, more resilient Cayman Islands — one egg at a time.
Egg Tip:
Not sure if your egg is fresh? Try the Water Test — place the egg in a glass of water. If it sinks, it’s fresh. If it floats, it’s time to let it go!
